Your First 10%

“Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.” - Proverbs 3:9-10

When it comes to giving, the principle of offering God our first 10%-our “firstfruits”-is about more than just money. It’s a reflection of our faith and trust in God’s provision. Giving the first portion of what we earn acknowledges that everything we have comes from Him in the first place, and it places our trust in Him to take care of the rest.

Think about what it means to give God your “first.” It means that before you consider your other obligations: bills, groceries, or savings, you prioritize God. You’re not giving Him what’s left after everything else is taken care of. Instead, you’re declaring with your actions, “God, I trust You. I’m giving You the first because I believe You’ll provide for the rest.”

This kind of giving is a powerful demonstration of faith. When we hold back and wait to see if we have “enough” left over for God, we’re really saying that we trust in our own ability to manage our finances more than we trust in Him. But when we give to God first, we’re placing Him at the center of our provision and declaring that our trust is not in our money but in the One who provides it.

It’s not always easy to give God our first 10%. There are times when the numbers don’t seem to add up, and it feels like giving that amount will leave us short. But that’s where faith comes in. When we give God the first portion, He promises to take care of our needs. As Proverbs 3:10 tells us, honoring God with our firstfruits brings blessing and provision. God is faithful, and when we trust Him with the first, He will provide for the rest.

Are you prioritizing God in your giving? If you haven’t already, challenge yourself to step out in faith and give Him the first 10%. It’s not about the amount, it’s about trusting Him enough to give Him the best, knowing He will take care of you. When you put God first, you can rest assured that He’ll provide for all your needs.
