“All of us have become like one who is unclean. All our right and good works are like dirty pieces of cloth. And all of us dry up like a leaf. Our sins take us away like the wind.” - Isaiah 64:6

We have spent the last few days talking about what happens when we fully commit to Jesus Christ. When we give our lives to Him, our fate is sealed. We will spend eternity with Him in heaven! And while this is great news, for some, those who have not yet given their life to Christ, they might be asking…why do I need to fully commit to Jesus?

Maybe you think, “I am just fine where I am at right now. My life seems pretty great, why do I need Jesus? Why should I commit my life to Him? That seems like a pretty big commitment.” Well, my friend, it is a big commitment. But it is most definitely worth it.

See, Jesus came to “fulfill” His purpose by dying on the cross. You say, okay but what does that mean for me, Pastor? The word fulfill means “to satisfy the expectation of righteousness.” Now, what’s another word for righteousness? Are you ready for this?

Perfection. Righteousness means perfection. Jesus was the only human being ever to go through all of life perfectly. None of us are perfect. Not in history, not now, and in the future; no one will ever be without sin. Not a single one of us is righteous. All of us have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Even our best efforts are not enough to get us to heaven. Isaiah 64:6 says, “All of us have become like one who is unclean. All our right and good works are like dirty pieces of cloth. And all of us dry up like a leaf. Our sins take us away like the wind.”

Wow… ALL of our GOOD WORKS are like DIRTY PIECES OF CLOTH. On your own, that is what your best efforts measure up to. Your life right now might be going okay, but that can all change. Not only here on earth, but where does the fate of your eternity stand? Heaven and Hell are real places. And because you are not perfect, you can’t get there alone. You NEED Him! You need Jesus, my friend!
