You Don't Have to Outperform Everyone

March 10, 20252 min read

“For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.” - Galatians 1:10

Do you live your life feeling like you have something to prove? Maybe you don’t say it out loud, but deep down, it’s there. That quiet fear that if you don’t perform at the highest level, if you don’t work harder than everyone else, if you don’t know all the answers, then people will see right through you.

You don’t just want to be good; you have to be the best. You can’t afford to fail. You can’t afford to show weakness. So you push. You grind. You overwork yourself because you think your worth is tied to your ability to perform.

But what happens when you can’t keep up? When the perfection you’re chasing proves impossible? When the weight of being enough becomes too much? The problem with trying to outwork, outthink, and outdo everyone else is that there is no finish line. No moment when you finally get to breathe and say, I’ve arrived. The more you prove, the more you have to keep proving. The more people praise you, the more you feel like you have to maintain the image. And the exhaustion becomes unbearable.

God never called you to be the best performer. He never asked you to hustle your way into worthiness. He didn’t create you to live in fear of being exposed as not enough. He called you to be His. And His love for you isn’t tied to how well you perform.

You don’t have to be the expert. You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to carry the pressure of being more than you are. God is not impressed by your hustle. He is drawn to your heart. And He isn’t asking you to prove yourself. He’s asking you to trust Him.

So today, release the pressure. Lay down the weight of trying to outperform everyone else. Stop living for approval that will never satisfy. You don’t have to fake it till you make it; you just have to rest in the truth that in Christ, you already belong.
