Wisdom's Call

August 02, 20262 min read

“Wisdom cries aloud in the street, in the markets she raises her voice; at the head of the noisy streets she cries out; at the entrance of the city gates she speaks.” - Proverbs 1:20-21

God’s wisdom is not hidden in some remote monastery. It is calling out to us in the middle of our everyday lives.

Solomon paints a vivid picture of wisdom as a woman standing in the busiest parts of the city, shouting to anyone who will listen. She is not whispering in secret corners or hiding behind locked doors. Wisdom is available, accessible, and actively pursuing us. The challenge is not finding wisdom but choosing to listen when she calls.

Think about your daily routine. Wisdom is calling out when you face that difficult conversation with your spouse. She is speaking when you have to decide how to respond to that challenging coworker. She is raising her voice when you are tempted to compromise your integrity for a shortcut. The question is not whether God’s wisdom is available, but whether we have ears to hear and hearts willing to respond.

Years ago, I was facing a major decision about changing ministry positions. I kept looking for some dramatic sign from heaven, but God’s wisdom came through a conversation with a friend over coffee, a verse that jumped out during my morning reading, and even through my wife’s gentle questions about my motives. Wisdom was calling out in the ordinary moments of life, but I almost missed it because I was listening for something more spectacular.

Pay attention to how God might be speaking wisdom into your life today through conversations, circumstances, and His Word. Keep a small notebook and jot down insights that come to you throughout the day.

Father, thank You that Your wisdom is not hidden from me but is actively calling out in my daily life. Open my ears to hear Your voice in the ordinary moments. Help me recognize Your guidance in conversations, circumstances, and Your Word. Give me the humility to receive Your wisdom wherever You choose to reveal it. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
