The Challenge Of Trusting God When He Says No
“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’” - 2 Corinthians 12:9
Paul asked God three times to remove the thorn in his flesh. Three times. And God said no. Not “not yet.” Not “maybe later.” Just no. For many of us, that is the hardest kind of prayer to receive. We come to God with genuine faith, asking for something that seems reasonable, even righteous, and He does not give us what we asked for. That can shake your faith if you are not grounded in who God is.
But look at what God gave Paul instead of the removal of the thorn. He gave him grace. Sufficient grace. Not just enough to survive, but enough to thrive. And He gave him something even more unexpected: the revelation that God’s power shows up most clearly in human weakness. The places where you feel most inadequate, most limited, most broken, those are the very places where God’s strength is most visible. Your weakness is not a disqualifier. It is an invitation for God to show up in power.
Is there a prayer you have prayed repeatedly that God has not answered the way you hoped? Bring it to Him today with open hands. Ask Him to show you what His grace looks like in the middle of that unanswered prayer.
Father, I trust You even when You say no. I believe that Your grace is sufficient for everything I face. Where I am weak, be strong. Where I am limited, be limitless. I surrender my agenda to Your perfect plan. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
