The Challenge Of Seeing Yourself The Way God Does
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” - Ephesians 2:10
The word “workmanship” in Ephesians 2:10 is the Greek word poiema, from which we get our English word “poem.” You are God’s poem. You are His masterpiece. Not a rough draft. Not a mistake. Not an afterthought. You are the intentional, creative work of a God who does not make junk. He crafted you with purpose and He placed you in this specific moment in history for specific good works that only you can do.
The challenge is that most of us do not see ourselves that way. We see the flaws, the limitations, the ways we fall short. We compare ourselves to other people and come up short in our own estimation. But God’s assessment of you is not based on your comparison to others. It is based on His creative intent. He made you the way He made you on purpose. Your personality, your gifts, your story, even your struggles, all of it is material in His hands. Stop letting the enemy narrate your value. Let the Creator speak.
Write down three specific gifts or qualities God has placed in you. Do not minimize them. Thank God for each one and ask Him to show you how to use them for His purposes this month.
Father, help me see myself the way You see me. I am Your workmanship, created for a purpose that only I can fulfill. Forgive me for the times I have believed the enemy’s lies about my worth. I choose today to see myself through Your eyes. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
