“When one of you has a dispute with another believer, how dare you file a lawsuit and ask a secular court to decide the matter instead of taking it to other believers. Don’t you realize that someday we believers will judge the world? And since you are going to judge the world, can’t you decide even these little things among yourselves?” - 1 Corinthians 6:1-2

When you find yourself in an argument or disagreement with someone you care about, how do you handle it? Do you scream, yell, or even cuss at them? Do you walk away and refuse to talk to them? Do you go and tell someone else about how much they have frustrated you?

The truth is, none of these are biblical ways in which you should handle a disagreement. 1 Corinthians 6 gives us a framework for how we should handle conflict with loved ones.

Verses 1-2 say, “When one of you has a dispute with another believer, how dare you file a lawsuit and ask a secular court to decide the matter instead of taking it to other believers. Don’t you realize that someday we believers will judge the world? And since you are going to judge the world, can’t you decide even these little things among yourselves?”

Did you catch that? Don’t scream at them. Don’t yell at them. Don’t run from them. Don’t gossip about them. Take it to them! When you have a conflict with someone, you need to approach that person first. The Bible does not say go and get others involved but instead work it out between you and the person you disagree with.

This isn’t my opinion or our church’s opinion; this is what God says to do! It is not wrong to be in conflict. You should stand for what you believe in. But if what you believe creates conflict or disagreement, then it’s time to take it to them with love and understanding!
