“Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” - Matthew 22:37-39

In a world full of distractions, responsibilities, and commitments, we often find ourselves struggling to prioritize what truly matters. Yet, at the core of our existence, God calls us to a simple, profound truth: love Him above everything else.

In Matthew 22:37-39, Jesus delivers the foundational commandment: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind.” It is the first and greatest commandment. This call to love God wholeheartedly challenges us to place Him above all other concerns.

Loving God above all else means recognizing His supreme place in our lives. It means surrendering our will, our desires, and our ambitions to His loving and perfect plan. It involves daily communion with Him, seeking His guidance, and delighting in His presence.

When we make God our top priority, we acknowledge His sovereignty in every aspect of our lives. Our decisions, actions, and relationships all flow from the foundation of our love for Him. We look to Him for wisdom, strength, and direction.

But this love isn’t confined to mere words or feelings. It’s expressed through our love for others, fulfilling the second part of the commandment: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Our love for God should overflow into our relationships, inspiring us to treat others with compassion, kindness, and selflessness.

This love for our neighbor transcends borders, prejudices, and boundaries. It extends to everyone we encounter, regardless of their background, beliefs, or circumstances. It challenges us to meet the needs of those around us, to lend a listening ear, and to offer a helping hand.

In prioritizing God and loving our neighbor, we reflect the heart of our Savior. Jesus exemplified love in its purest form, showing compassion to the broken, offering forgiveness to the repentant, and teaching us to love as He loved.
