“But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.’” - 1 Samuel 16:7

Have you ever felt overlooked? Maybe it was for a job, an opportunity, or even in your own family. It’s easy to feel invisible when the world seems to value appearances, achievements, and status over what truly matters. But take heart, God doesn’t see you the way the world does.

When Samuel went to anoint the next king of Israel, he saw Jesse’s sons and immediately assumed that one of the tall, strong, impressive ones must be the chosen one. But God had a different plan. While everyone else overlooked the youngest son, David, God had already seen him. David was out in the fields, tending sheep, unseen by the world, but not unnoticed by God. God wasn’t looking at David’s position or appearance. He was looking at his heart.

This truth should fill you with hope. God sees you. Even if others fail to notice your worth or recognize your potential, God knows who you are and what He has placed inside you. The world may measure success by outward appearances, but God’s focus is on your heart. He values your character, your faith, and your willingness to follow Him.

When you feel overlooked, remember that God never misses a single moment of your life. He sees the effort you put in, the love you give, and the faith you hold onto, even when no one else does. Like David, you may not look like the world’s first choice, but to God, you are perfectly chosen for His purpose.

Trust that God’s timing and calling are perfect. He knows exactly where you are, and He will bring you forward in His plan at the right moment. You are not overlooked by the One who matters most. You are seen, valued, and chosen by God Himself.
