Humility in the Waiting

September 24, 20252 min read

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you” - 1 Peter 5:6

Prayer is not only where God teaches us to rely on Him, but it is also where He develops humility in us for the seasons ahead. There are times in our walk with Him when we know what He has promised. We can see the direction He is leading us, we believe He is preparing us for something greater, and yet we have not received it. This is not a delay by accident; it is intentional.

In these moments, God is teaching us to sit in humility before the blessing comes. He knows what is waiting on the other side of our obedience. He knows the weight of influence, opportunity, or success He plans to entrust to us. He also knows that without the humility He builds in us now, we could step into those blessings and quickly lose sight of who gave them to us.

Prayer in this season becomes less about “God, give it to me now” and more about “God, prepare me for it.” It is in the quiet, unseen moments with Him that He shapes our character, corrects our motives, and keeps our hearts aligned with His will. He reminds us that the goal is not the blessing itself but becoming the kind of person who can steward it well.

This period of humility protects us. It teaches us that we are not defined by our title, our platform, or our accomplishments. It roots our identity in Him so that when the big wins come, we give the glory to God instead of to ourselves. It trains us to see every victory as a gift from His hand, not a product of our own power.

If you find yourself in prayer, knowing what God has promised but not yet holding it, do not despise this season. God is not withholding from you. He is preparing you. The humility you gain now will be what allows you to stand firmly and faithfully when the blessings come. Stay close to Him, stay surrendered, and let Him do the work in you that will keep you grounded on the other side of your answered prayers.
