“And Elisha prayed, ‘Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see you.’ Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” - 2 Kings 6:17

2 Kings 6 tells the story of the prophet Elisha and how he was able to warn Israel that the Arameans were coming. This was significant because the king of Aram believed that there was a snitch inside the operation. He believed someone was warning the Israelites of their attack.

It turns out, there was no snitch. It was the prophet Elisha who knew beforehand. So Arameans decided they were going to trap Elisha. As Elisha’s servant wakes up and goes outside, he sees the city is completely surrounded by the enemy. He freaks out.

He becomes scared and then asks Elisha, what are we going to do? We are surrounded. We’re overwhelmed, we’re outmatched, outnumbered. Have you ever found yourself in a situation similar? Maybe not to the same drastic measure, but still…

You go to bed with everything being fine, and you wake up the next morning, and gas is $4. You go to bed while everything is good, and the next day there is a world crisis. You go to bed and wake up the next morning, and a pandemic hits. You go to bed, wake up, and the stock market has crashed.

We live in a world that is constantly changing, but there is a God that never changes. Often we are so quick to jump into the world without getting into the Word. We have to get in the Word to understand the world because the world will always be changing, but God’s Word never does.

What reading and diving into the Word will do is give us the “God goggles” we need to see things from His perspective. If you want to be able to overcome the situations in which you are overwhelmed, outmatched, or outnumbered, you have to have seen things through “God goggles.”

Elisha prayed for his servant who was freaking out, “‘Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see you.’ Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.”

Elisha never panicked because he saw the situation through God’s goggles.
