Fear Has A Name, And It Is Not The Last Word
“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” - 2 Timothy 1:7
Fear is loud. It knows exactly what to say and exactly when to say it. It shows up at 3 a.m. when you cannot sleep. It whispers in the middle of a conversation that you are not enough. It freezes you at the threshold of something God is calling you to do. Fear is not just an emotion. It is a spiritual force that the enemy uses to keep you from walking in the fullness of what God has for you.
But 2 Timothy 1:7 is Paul’s declaration that fear is not from God. The spirit God gave you is not a spirit of timidity or paralysis. It is a spirit of power, love, and self-control. That means every time fear shows up, you have something greater inside you. You do not fight fear with willpower alone. You fight it with the Spirit of God who lives in you. Name the fear today. Drag it into the light. Because fear loses its power when you stop running from it and start standing on the truth of who God says you are.
Write down the fear that has been loudest in your life lately. Then write 2 Timothy 1:7 next to it. Every time that fear surfaces this week, speak that verse out loud. Let the Word of God be your weapon.
God, I refuse to let fear have the final word in my life. You did not give me a spirit of fear, so I reject it today. I receive Your spirit of power, love, and self-control. Speak louder than my fears, Lord. I am listening. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
