Don't Focus on Your Circumstances
“But Moses said to God, ‘O my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue.’” - Exodus 4:10
When God calls you to do something, it can be easy to get caught up in the details of your circumstances. Just think about Moses. He was asked by God to go to Pharaoh and demand that he let the Israelites go free. That’s a huge task.
But instead of focusing on the God who had the power to deliver the Israelites, Moses immediately started worrying about his own limitations. He worried about what Pharaoh might think, how he might respond, and his inability to speak well. Moses was so focused on his circumstances, his speech problem, and his fear of Pharaoh that he couldn’t see the bigger picture: God was in control of it all.
It’s easy to fall into the same trap. When you face a challenge, it’s tempting to focus on your own weaknesses or the obstacles in front of you. You look at your job, your relationships, your health, or any number of other things, and suddenly, the situation feels impossible. The more you focus on the problem, the bigger it seems. But your circumstances are not the final word. God is.
God didn’t respond to Moses by saying, “You’re right, you’re not a good speaker.” Instead, He reminded Moses that He is the one who made his mouth, and He would be with him. God had the power to work through Moses’ weaknesses, just as He has the power to work through yours.
When you face challenges, don’t let your focus shift to what you can’t do or the things that seem impossible. Instead, focus on the God who holds all things in His hands. He is the one who controls your circumstances, and He is the one who will lead you through them.
