Counted In by God
“And Samuel said to Jesse, ‘Are all your sons here?’ And he said, ‘There remains yet the youngest, but behold, he is keeping the sheep.’ And Samuel said to Jesse, ‘Send and get him, for we will not sit down till he comes here.’” - 1 Samuel 16:11
Have you ever felt dismissed or underestimated, as if someone else had already decided you weren’t worthy of a chance? Maybe they’ve counted you out because of your age, your background, or their perception of what you can or cannot do. The good news is that God doesn’t rely on human opinions to decide who He will use. When others count you out, God counts you in.
David’s own father didn’t think he belonged in the lineup when Samuel came to anoint the next king. Jesse brought in all of David’s older brothers, the ones who looked the part. When none of them were chosen, Samuel asked if there were any more sons. Jesse’s response said it all: “There remains yet the youngest.” David wasn’t even named; he was just “the youngest,” the one tending sheep. Jesse had dismissed him as unimportant, but God hadn’t.
David wasn’t forgotten by God. The very one who wasn’t invited was the one God had already chosen. Jesse may have counted David out, but God was putting His plan into motion. He doesn’t need anyone else’s approval to fulfill His purpose in your life. When God counts you in, no one can stop what He’s doing.
You might feel like you’ve been overlooked, left out, or dismissed, but God sees you. He knows your heart, your potential, and His purpose for you. Others might not recognize your value, but God does. His plan for your life isn’t dependent on their opinions, invitations, or decisions.
When the world counts you out, God counts you in. He is faithful to complete what He’s started in you. Trust Him to open the right doors and make a way, even when others try to leave you out. God’s purpose for you is unstoppable, and His call on your life is greater than any human decision. Keep trusting, keep believing, and know that with God, you are always counted in.
