“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” - James 1:22

Have you ever stopped to consider how often you think about your own needs and desires? It’s easy to fall into patterns of selfishness without even realizing it. We might justify our actions by convincing ourselves that we deserve certain comforts or conveniences, but God calls us to a higher standard-one that challenges us to truly live out selflessness.

Think about the story of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:25-37. When others passed by the injured man without offering help, it was the Samaritan-someone considered an outsider-who showed true compassion and selflessness. He put aside his plans, his comfort, and his resources to care for someone in need.

Reflect on your own life. How often do you pass by opportunities to help others because it’s inconvenient or because you’re too focused on your own schedule? Are there moments when you choose comfort over compassion or personal gain over giving?

Selflessness is more than just an occasional good deed; it’s a lifestyle. It’s about being intentional in how you prioritize others in your daily decisions. Ask yourself these questions:

When was the last time I put someone else’s needs ahead of my own?

Do I seek opportunities to serve, or do I wait for them to come to me?

Am I willing to be inconvenienced for the sake of helping others?

As you consider these questions, remember that living selflessly doesn’t mean you neglect yourself. Rather, it means you allow God to work through you to bless others, trusting that He will also take care of your needs.

Challenge yourself to be more aware of the needs around you and to take action. Remember, selflessness is a journey, and every small step counts. By aligning your actions with God’s word, you become a living testimony of His love and grace.
