A Lost Opportunity

“Another of the disciples said to him, ‘Lord, let me first go and bury my father.’ And Jesus said to him, ‘Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.’” - Matthew 8:21-22

When you choose to wait and delay obeying God, you risk the chance of losing an opportunity of a lifetime. Now, that might sound dramatic, but it is that important. Whatever plan, purpose, or mission God gives you, that is your calling in life.

God made you for a reason. And He has a very specific purpose for your life. Many believers are desperately searching for their purpose and for God to reveal that purpose to them. Once He has revealed yours, the worst thing you can do is delay your obedience to Him.

He gives clarity for a reason. He wants you to get up and follow Him, and He wants you to follow Him NOW. Matthew 8:21-22 says, “Another of the disciples said to him, ‘Lord, let me first go and bury my father.’ And Jesus said to him, ‘Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.’”

Here was a man passionate about following Jesus. He wanted to do whatever it took to follow Jesus. So, the time comes and Jesus says, “let’s go.” But the man stalls because he needs to bury his father first. To which Jesus says, “Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.”

Now, to some, this might seem harsh. But that’s how important the time was. Had this man gone back, maybe he never follows Jesus. When you delay obedience, you could lose an opportunity of a lifetime.

There is no better decision you will make after giving your life to Christ than to follow His perfect plan for you. But when you delay and procrastinate, you risk losing the opportunity God wants to give you.

Don’t live with the regret of “what if.” Follow God and follow Him now. Don’t lose your opportunity to do something special! You only get one life, you know?
